The Revolution You Might Have Missed
On May 8th a ground breaking event took place in Haiti that will change the world.
It was a vote. A vote for something that had never before been seen in the world.* The Haitian Parliament amended the Constitution to allow for dual nationality. There are other countries that allow it too; but none like us.
By ARTICLES 11-15, even if you are born in another country to one parent who is Haitian, you have Haitian citizenship for life.
This is as unprecedented as an 18th century revolution for the freedom of all men. This is one of those things that is ahead of its time. As globalization is our eventual end, once again, the people will lead the way.
This is opportunity.
We always talk about this group. These 80's babies and 90's babies. They live in the U.S., D.R., Bahamas, Canada, France, every corner of the world. Their growth along side their brothers and sisters, the young national majority of Haiti are what we call the emergence of a Haitian worldwide alternative subculture.
On May 8, their birth certificates were printed and in the coming days, signed by the President of the Republic and published to the official executive journal. So now, you have to grow it.
We don't pretend to know what is going to happen next. That's not what DH is about. But we can offer a few guiding principles.
Stay connected, if not together. Stay truthful, if not fortunate. Stay bold, if not black.
