Respekte dwa lengwistik pèp ayisyen an "tèt kale" [English]

An Open Letter from Jacques Pierre for President-elect Michel Martelly
This document was sent to AlterPresse on May 9 2011

President Michel Joseph Martelly:

In the name of all the Haitian people, I congratulate you for your great victory confirmed by an official of the Provisional Electoral Council to April 20, 2011. President, in your speech on 5 April 2011, you said that you were the President of all Haitians, so I think your Government will work to improve the lives of all men, and will respect human rights of all Haitians living in the country of Haiti.

I, myself, am a linguists and an educator, and I will take advantage of this occasion to tell you one more fundamental right of the Haitian people that deserves the respect of "Tet Kale", it's the right of Linguistics. All Haitians born and raised in the land of Haiti, we all speak Creole. It is true. There is a handful of people who speak French also; but Creole is the only language that all Haitians can use to speak to one another without any problem. Article 5 of the Constitution of Haiti 1987 "Creole is one and only language that brings together all the Haitian people," with this we are asking you to respect the language of the Haitian people during the five years tou wll spend in power. It is Ayibobo for you, if the Haitian people could see; Article 5, 24-3, 40, and 213 in the 1987 Constitution apply in fact pannan mandate.

President, I wish you could set up a communications team to create a website in which all Haitians can find information in Creole and French on the Presidency. It is important for the country's official newspaper "Le Moniteur" to publish all the its information in Creole and French. In the same way, all the official papers of the state are released in two languages, the employees of the state should speak Creole with all Haitians in need of services from government offices. Lastly, I wish your Government would create a Translation Bureau at Sekreteri, Alfabetizasyon to translate the documents of the last century that only exist in French. If there exist an Office of Translation, I hope you will support him and give him all the work because with document deserves translating intp Creole. While the Translation Bureau will render documents before, I hope the documents will appear the first day you come into power and be available in Creole and French. President, I believe there are not enough resources to do have everything I have said realized; now it is a question of volunteers, in your hands.

President, in the corner and nook you visited in while you were campaigning, you spoke in your mothers language "tet kale." It is like this the people understood your Tet Kale: Creole speak, creole understand. I hope you don't push the people to the side on may 14. I wish you not to do a speech in French, a language that majority of the population does not understand. And also the language of your mother is the language of all the Haitian people, those it concerns, it invites all the Haitian people. I hope May 14 speech will not be a speech with a few short phrases in Creole and the rest in French. If it is this, truly when people become the leader of Haiti, they are not of the people. They do not speak for the people to understand because the people vote is counted; their voice doesn't count anymore. I have would like to see the people's vote and the voice of the people become one so that we can start helping Haiti up with the participation of all the proletariat.

President, there are people who think you should make your speech in French so that diplomats in the international community can understand you. But if there are some who don't have interpreters, you can find anyone to interpret for them. You should not have to use an interpreter to speak to the majority of the people. If you did not do this in your campaign, why is it now you would like to do this? So it is important from the first day to show your Government will not continue to discriminate the language of this country that exist in the country things in this country from small struggle [?].

President, I wish you good luck. We know the work is not easy. I invited everyone to work 'tet kale' with your Government because if you fail it is all the country that fails. Clear all Haitians as a result, if they voted for you, and to those who have voted for you do not wish the country worse than they are because this is worse than death. So I am asking all the professionals of job skills in the other domain to jointly criticized and proposed solutions think whereby the Government when it by deceit. This will not happen, it is important to the Presidency and the Office of the Prime Minister created a sitweb which has a space in which all groups of professionals can give opinions and make proposals in order and discipline and no one attacked personality who manage the land.

Life in Haiti, no use of a language as a barrier to prevent discover good ideas every Haitian has in mind so that all may participate in the reconstruction of oneself. But a lot of the load is not heavy.

Lèt tou louvri Jacques Pierre* pou prezidan eli Michel Martelly

Prezidan : Joseph Michel Martelly

Pou fini, m swete gouvènman ou an ta kreye yon biwo tradiksyon nan Sekreteri d Eta Alfabetizasyon an pou tradui dokiman nan syèk pase yo ki sèlman egziste an franse. Si gen yon biwo tradiskyon ki egziste deja, m swete ou va kore li e ba li tout mwayen pou l travay paske chaje ak dokiman ki merite tradui an kreyòl. Antan biwo tradiksyon an ap tradui dokiman anvan yo, m swete tout dokiman k ap gen pou parèt depi premye jou ou monte sou pouvwa a ap disponib an kreyòl ak franse.

M swete ou pa fè yon diskou an franse, ki se yon lang majorite popilasyon an pa konprann. M espere diskou 14 me a pa pral yon diskou ki gen de twa bout fraz an kreyòl epi rès la an franse.

Men, misyon diplomatik yo gen entèprèt. E si kèk nan yo pa ta va gen entèprèt, gouvènman ou an kapab jwenn moun ki pou entèprete pou yo.

Konsa, m ap mande tout lòt pwofesyonèl ki gen ekspètiz nan lòt domèn pou mete tèt yo ansanm pou kritike ansanm ak pwopoze solisyon yo panse ki kapab ede gouvènman an lè li fè yon fo pa. Pou sa rive fèt, li enpòtan pou Prezidans lan ansanm ak biwo premye minis la kreye yon sitwèb ki gen yon espas kote tout gwoup pwofesyonèl yo kapab bay opinyon yo ansanm ak fè pwopozisyon nan lòd ak disiplin san pèsonn pa atake pèsonalite moun k ap jere peyi a.

Viv yon Ayiti kote pèsonn pa sèvi ak yon lang kòm baryè pou anpeche n dekouvri bon jan lide chak grenn ayisyen genyen nan tèt li. Konsa, tout moun va patisipe nan rekonstriksyon peyi a tèt kale. Men anpil chay pa lou.

Ak anpil respè,

Kawolin di Nò, Etazini, 8 me 2011
