VENICE, Italy - Biennale di Venezia, in English, the Venice Biennale is regarded as a one of the worlds major contemporary art exhibitions only taking place once every two years.
Established to celebrate contemporary art from around the world, the Venice Biennale , features pavilions reserved for nations to present their are and the culture.
Appearing for the first time in the 216 year history of the exhibition, Haitian art is featured with its own national pavilion.
Some Haitian artists showcasing their work are Edouard Duval-Carrie who brought with him his piece, La Promenade du Grand Baron . Duval-Carrie did not hide his enthusiasm saying "this is completely amazing!" to an AFP reporter. He felt it important for people to understand the country and its enduring love and pride.
âIn Haiti, misery predominates. Sometimes we have to break that because our country is more complex than any other country. There is also art, culture. Itâs important for our pride,â the artist concluded.
Also Jean Herard-Celeur brought his piece The Three Horsemen of the Apocalyps . Gordon Leah and English publisher would say, "I think that the work of Atis-Rezistans [the Haitian art collective] is very challenging, and for some shocking, as it deals with sex and death, Eros and Thanatos, through the lens of voodoo, poverty and social exclusion.â
15 Haitian artisans are at the exhibition this year, in two parts, an outdoor exhibition called "Death and Fertility" and an indoor exhibition called "Haiti: Kingdom of the World".
The names of the participating artists are: Sergine André, Ãlodie Barthelemy, Mario Benjamin, Maxence Denis, Edouard Duval-Carrié, Frankétienne, Guyodo, Sébastien Jean, Killy, Tess Mars, Pascale Monnin, Paskö, Barbara Prézeau Roberto Stephenson, Hervé Télémaque and Patrick Vilaire.
The pavilion of the Republic of Haiti will pay tribute to Edouard Glissant, Caribbean writer and philosopher who died recently.
