Consul General of Haiti in Miami
The same sentiments of a successful Carnaval des Fleurs was shared by the Consul General of Haiti in Miami, Francois Guillaume II. In a statement, the Office of the Consul General to Miami said the success was indisputable after the absence of 39 years of the summer carnaval in Port-au-Prince.
Wednesday 1 August 2012: The Communication Office of the Consulate General of Haiti in Miami, informs the general public that a delegation from the Consulate, accompanied by almost fifteen members of the Miami media and queens of the famous Miami group "Ti Chapo", participated in the Carnival of Flowers realized for the first time in Haiti since 1973.
Indeed, after thirty nine (39) years of absence in the country, the carnival was a success like no other Champs des Mars. Compatriots from all over, both Haiti and abroad, invested the different arteries of Port-au-Prince to have fun while expressing their gratitude to the President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Michel Joseph Martelly, who was able to revive the tourism, cultural and economic values of the Carnival of Flowers in Haiti. This prestigious festival in the middle of summer vacation, has a very remarkable economic contribution in terms of hotels, restaurants, airlines, small businesses, etc.
Champs de Mars, which housed more than five thousand (5,000) families in horrible conditions after the earthquake of January 12, 2010 who have been relocated through the project 16/6 established by the President of the Republic, was, during these three days of festivities, the scene of the manifestation of the hope that feeds the public of a new era in Haiti.
Mr. Francois Guillaume II, Consul General of Haiti in Miami, expressed particular satisfaction at the initiative of the Office of the First Lady of the Republic, Mrs. Sophia Martelly, who had the ingenious idea of putting on the course of carnival, a mini-intervention center for medical support, in record time, emergencies.
The delegation of the Consulate also welcomed the remarkable work of police and paramedics deployed throughout the carnival route. An effort that allowed revelers to unwind in peace.
While commending the Haitian people and the diaspora particularly impressive for their participation in the Carnival of Flowers 2012, the Consulate General of Haiti in Miami hopes that this initiative continues to benefit from the effective integration of the four million Haitians living abroad in the development process in Haiti, as recommended by the Martelly/Lamothe administration. "Haiti se la pou w la".
