PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - O confronto entre Port-au-Prince e Marc St. virou-se para a vantagem de Port-au-Prince, impondo-se sobre o Marcois St. (100-85) no finais da 1 ª edição, intitulada "Torneio da Renascença", organizado pela Federação de Basquetebol do Haiti.
"It is difficult to express the feelings within me right now. I'm so happy! We were very motivated and determined for the final. We wanted to show everyone that we are always on top. It was an unbelievable match. We put our hearts on the table," said St. Makendy Hubbain, best player in the game with 28 points.
"A difficult victory but invaluable. I am proud," said one fan of the selection Port-au-Prince.
The unfortunate William Nielsen of St. Marc, best scorer of the tournament with 102 points, sportingly acknowledged his opponents: "I am happy for them. They were better than us, I congratulate them." He promised, moreover, to take revenge, if his team had to cross P-au-P again in the second edition of the national championship.
Commenting on the coronation of Port-au-Prince, Emmanuel Bonnefil, coordinator of the tournament, reported that the selection Port-au-Prince deserved it. He took this opportunity to thank Digicel which sponsored the tournament.
"The men of Port-au-Prince deserved to win the first edition, taking into account their excellent track record in the competition. But it would not be a bad thing if the Saint Marcois had delighted. My thanks are addressed to eight teams. Without them, there would absolutely not have been a first edition," said Emmanuel Bonnefil.
To remember that the tournament began on September 30 passed. No major incidents were listed. The meetings were played in Port-au-Prince, St. Marc and Cap-Haitien. In addition to the medals and the trophy, the winning team received a budget of $ 2 500 USD. As vice-champion, she had $ 1 250 US, while a $ 300 bonus was offered to the best scorer.
