Man Claims to be President Martelly's Son

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (defend.ht) - A young man named Patric Alfredo Martelly Garó is claiming to be the son of the President of the Republic, Michel Joseph Martelly.

Dominican Today reported that Garó lives in the village of Los Cocos, near the southwestern coastal town of Enriquillo.

The Agence Haitienne de Presse (AHP) reported that Garo possesses an identification document which says he was born in Petionville, Haiti February 9, 1990 and that his father is a musician and his family, Martelly.

He arrived from Petionville to the D.R. in 1995 with his little sister who is three years younger and is the daughter of Martelly.

Patric Martelly said his mother died 22 days after she arrived, very ill, from Haiti, where they had lived during 10 years and where she had met the singer-musician Michel Martelly.

Days after arriving, Patric Martelly said, the woman by the name of Maria Gue, of Haitian nationality, came looking for him, adding that his mother had warned him that Gue, allegedly a close friend of president Martelly, would come looking for him.

Reports say when asked about it, President Martelly said "let him come to undergo a DNA test. What interests me is to confirms what his mother has always said, and this long before Martelly became president of Haiti." This case was raised during the presidential campaign of 2010/2011 Haiti.
