Haitian National Police Re-Launch "Operation Dragon" 2.0

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - The Central Directorate of Judicial Police (DCPJ) intends to relaunch a successful operation undertaken during the 2011 holiday season, calling it "Operation Dragon 2", informed Deputy Spokesman Garry Desrosiers. The return to the Dragon comes as in recent weeks there has been a rise in homicides in the Haitian capital.

Murders are committed in many parts of Port-au-Prince, including Cite Soleil (north). The most recent is the director of a community radio station in this area, Liphète John Nelson, March 5.

A former central bank governor Venel Joseph was shot and killed on the night of March 6 to 7 by gunmen.

But "the police do not give up ... there is an operation called Dragon 2 Central Directorate of Criminal Investigation will trigger at Cite Soleil and other places," said Garry Desrosiers to AlterPresse The date of implementation of this operation is not communicated to the press.

The United Nations Mission for the Stabilization of Haiti (MINUSTAH) said a "small increase in crime" is observed in the country, which according to the mission remains a reflection of the security situation in the Caribbean and of Latin America.

President Martelly recently said that one can’t speak of rising insecurity with only a few murders here and there.

So far there has been 103 homicides in the capital in 2012. 19 in the month of March.
