PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - November 19, 2011. In the spirit of the new campaign of proximity required by the President of the Republic, an approach aimed at bringing government actions to the needs of the population, led the Minister of Interior and Territorial Communities and National Defense, Mr. Thierry Mayard-Paul, to the far South. Several departments, including the Grande Anse, South and South-East have been affected.
The listening campaign is part of the corporate strategy whose mission is the implementation of the decentralization policy, ardently desired by the Head of State in his quest for sustainable development for the Haitian people. It is also through the identification of leaders capable and accountable to their communities that will be achieved.
With this in mind for listening and sharing information, many communities, particularly those of Anse d'Hainault, Port Salut, Les Cayes and Jeremie met with the Minister and his team. Their hopes on the needs for the improvement of their lives were cast. Several themes were identified, including: the lines of communication between some rural sections, the need for new health centers nearby, the redevelopment of the area, the difficulties of their working tools and other means of subsistence. All these points are carefully considered in order to align the corporate strategy of decentralization with the real needs of the population.
The Interior Ministry is working to materialize the vision of the President of the Republic to create sustainable development through local initiatives and decentralized cooperation.
