PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - On Monday, no date had yet been set for the report of the senate commission tasked to analyze the supporting document of the Prime Minister-designate. Furthermore, it was eluded by a committee member that nothing is for certain with regards to ratification of Dr. Garry Conille as Prime Minister.
Reported in Le Nouvelliste from an interview on Magik 9 Radio, Senator Moise Jean-Charles, head of the subcommittee verifying nationality and residency of Dr. Garry Conille said that certain materials may hinder ratification.
"Nothing is certain yet for Garry Conille. The first indications obtained in the course of our investigations reveal elements that might prevent his ratification," said Senator Moïse Jean-Charles, without providing detail.
The Chairman senate committee, Senator Simon Dieuseul Desras said that thorough investigations of Conille's supporting documents revealed two documents that may hinder his ratification; his certificate of residence and his National Identification Card which had only been applied for on September 7 2011.
Senator Jean-Charles insisted that there will be compliance with Article 157 of the Constitution during the Senate vote, which may be different from the approach of the lower house, which he described their unanimous decision to ratify as a "Goudou Goudou", term used for the earthquake of January 12, 2010.
The group of 16 senators which have formed a majority bloc in the upper house have kept their intentions close to their chest awaiting a response from the commission.
"We do not have a fixed position," says Senator Jean-Charles. This is different in regards to the case of the previous Prime Minister-designate in which the bloc openly expressed that they would reject the candidate.
According to Jean-Charles the bloc is divided on Conille, saying "some are for, some against and some are undecided." The group did say that they would vote together as a group and meetings are scheduled to bring a consensus within their bloc.
