Haitian Lawmakers Express Sympathy after Passing of U.S. Rep. Donald Payne

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - In a letter signed by the President of the Senate and Congress, Simon Desras (Centre/Lavni) and Levaillant Louis Jeune (Desdunes/Inite), respectively, the legislature expressed regret for the loss of U.S. Representative Donald Payne.
In the letter of the National Assembly, its Presidents remembered Payne's concern and work toward the benefit of the Haitian people. Payne who was once Chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus is remembered for fighting for causes in Africa and strengthening relations with that continent and the west.

The sad news about the congressman Donald Payne has been brought to us suddenly, since until recently we met in DC just last month.. We are very sorry to hear that he has passed away despite his bold battle against the pain of sickness. Please accept our sincere condolences on his death. We were deeply grieved to learn of the untimely death.
We remember how Congressman Donald Payne, the former chairman of the congressional Black Caucus, stood up for the Haitian people at a time, when the country was mostly devastated by the 2010 Earthquake.
We, in the Haitian parliament, extend our deepest sympathy to the American people, to the US congress and to the family of Congressman Donald Payne upon his passing.
At this very painful time in your life,the Haitian parliament is sharing your sadness and mourning your loss.
