Haiti: A farewell to former House Speaker Casséus

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (sentinel.ht) - A state funeral took place on Monday to bid farewell to former Deputy Ernst Pedro Casséus (Port-au-Prince), a former President of the Chamber of Deputies, member of the 45th and 46th legislatures, Director of the Haitian Institute of Statistics and Information (IHSI), Professor at the State University and publisher of reference book on the decentralization of Haiti.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (sentinel.ht/HPN) - A state funeral took place on Monday to bid farewell to former Deputy Ernst Pedro Casséus (Port-au-Prince), a former President of the Chamber of Deputies, member of the 45th and 46th legislatures, Director of the Haitian Institute of Statistics and Information (IHSI), Professor at the State University and publisher of reference book on the decentralization of Haiti.

Casséus died on August 30 at the age of 80. His funeral was attended by several parliamentarians and government officials and members of civil society which included the Secretary-General ai of the Chamber of Deputies, Pierre Jelaime the Electoral Councilor Georges Pierre Simon and Arnold Herard, current President of the Movement Organization Party of the Advancing Country Open to Farmers (MOP).

Mr Herard presented the former MP as a sensitive, honest and great defender of the weak.

One of the daughters of the deceased, Ruth Myrtho Casseus, for her part, presented her father as "a model and Patriarch" for his family.

The current president of the lower house, Jean Tolbert Alexis (Croix-des-Bouquets/Inite), said the late former member was very committed to principles and democratic values.

The Minister of Defense, Jean Rodolphe Joazile and the Secretary of State for Public Security, Reginald Delva, appeared for members of the administration. President Michel Martelly was not in attendance and Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe was on an official visit to the European Union.

After the ceremony at the Haitian Parliament, a mass was sung in the church of Saint Pierre de Petion-ville by the Rev. Father William Smarth. The burial of the remains of Pedro Ernst Casséus held at Memorial Park.
