PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht/HPN) - The Haitian Bodybuilding Federation will hold next Saturday the First Bodybuilding Competition in order to regroup the federation, boost discipline and identify talented youth practicing the sport.

"We are pleased today to organize a tournament for the discovery of our athletes and discover a lot of talent," said Alix Alexandre, one of the officials of the federation.

This competition will help to motivate athletes and select the best athletes to represent the country at the international level.

This tournament will take place in three categories for males and one for females. Bodybuilding practitioners should be 18 years and older in order to participate in this competition.

"We can not list the number of clubs that will participate as we receive till the date of registration for the competition", said Alix Alexandre.

According to one of the organizers, Filippo Mackenzi, "there is no criteria for registration as we want at all costs to know the number of athletes practicing this physical sport."

Very popular in several countries of the American continent, bodybuilding was only recently introduced in Haiti. Unknown, the sport suffers far from a negative social perception. Its followers, women more than men, are directly associated with stereotypical images mainly because of their very pronounced manhood.

Bodybuilding or "building the body" is a sport that is mainly to develop muscle mass (muscle hypertrophy) for aesthetic purposes.

The preparation of bodybuilding is composed mainly of strength training, rest, and a strict diet control (usually rich in calories and protein, which evolves according to the athlete is in a cycle of taking mass or dry).
