Law Student Wins Bronze Medal at World Championships

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil - At a preliminary tournament ahead of the 13th IAAF World Championships in Athletics competition Harvard graduate, Samyr Laine brought home a 3rd place, Bronze medal for the nation of Haiti.
A 26 year old track & field star, Samyr Laine, is a graduate of Harvard University, University of Texas and Georgetown University Graduate Law School.
Talking to Laine, he did say it was difficult to balance something as intense as his training regiment and his studies in law but he succeeded by being very diligent and efficient with his time. "I tried not to waste a second of the day, whether I was supposed to be studying, writing a paper or working in the weight room..." Laine said, "this approach to it paid off in the end."
With a degree in law, Samyr Laine, esq. anticipates working in corporate law. He would like to combine his interest in contract law with his knowledge and passion for sports. At the moment he is set to work at the international Law Firm in New York, Shearman and Sterling.
Although born in the United States, Laine is proud to compete under the Haitian flag, where his parents and most of his family are from.
Laine is hopeful for the country and for its athletic future. He sees promise in the Haitian Track & Field team in the Olympic games and as for the rebuilding efforts that are taking place, he knows things are moving slow but in the right direction, they "will eventually pick up even more momentum." Samyr also added that he looks forward to assisting as much as he can in the future.
On Thursday, Laine, in the triple-jump came in just 3 centimeters shy of the first place at 16.92 meters. With this distance, Laine said it was his best jump of the season, saying that things are moving forward for him.
